Nurse Re-entry

If you have not practised as a nurse for five or more years and can not demonstrate continuing competence, the Queensland Nursing Council (QNC) may determine that you need to demonstrate competence by completing this program. The Nurse Re-entry (Competence Assessment Service) Program is designed to provide you the knowledge, skills and competence for practice - giving you the confidence you need to return to the modern nursing environment.

At a Glance

Designed for both Registered and Enrolled Nurses or Endorsed Midwives who have not maintained their registration / enrolment / authority to practise with the QNC

Administered by the QNC and delivered by the Competence Assessment Service

3 core components:

Introductory Guide: Demonstrating competence – what are the options?
Challenge Test Option – designed for applicants who are confident of their current knowledge and clinical skills for practice and/or
Enrolment in the Education Program

Education Program offered by distance education

Successful completion of either Challenge Test Option or Education Program leads to eligibility for registration / enrolment as a nurse, or authority to practise as a midwife

Nurse Re-entry Support Program

If you have recently completed the Competence Assessment Service Program and you are registered / enrolled to practise with the QNC, Queensland Health offers a supportive program (including 120 hours of paid supervised clinical practice) to ensure you feel confident returning to the acute nursing environment.
