Midwifery Refresher Program
Queensland Health provides two different types of refresher program for midwives in Queensland, depending on the length of time since you last practised as a midwife.
Practised within five years
If you haven’t practised for up to five years, but you’ve maintained your Midwifery endorsement with the Queensland Nursing Council (QNC), then we can support you with a flexible delivery program that can be undertaken at a number of our hospitals at different times throughout the year.

- Designed for Endorsed Midwives
- Flexible delivery program - includes both education modules and paid supervised clinical practice (120 hours minimum)
- Provided at no cost to participant
- Designed to be completed in up to 12 weeks
- Open to Australian citizens or permanent residents
Practised within ten years
If you haven’t practised for between five to ten years, but you have maintained your Midwifery endorsement with the QNC, then we offer a more intensive clinical program that is provided at our larger maternity services units on a rotational basis.

- Designed for Endorsed Midwives who have not practised for between 5 to 10 years
- Comprehensive clinical program including educational modules and intensive clinical practice
- Provided at no cost to the participant
- Completed over 12 weeks
- Open to Australian citizens and permanent residents
