Bringing Nurses Back
into the Workforce Program

The Bringing Nurses Back into the Workforce (BNBW) Program provides financial incentive payments of up to $6,000 to eligible nurses and midwives who return to their nursing or midwifery career with Queensland Health.

At a Glance

  • Have previously worked as a Registered or Enrolled Nurse or Endorsed Midwife in Australia
  • Not practised as a nurse/midwife in Australia in the previous 12 months or more
  • Returned to their nursing or midwifery career on or after 15 January 2008
  • Financial incentive payments are paid at 6 and 18 months post continuous employment. NB payments are considered taxable income
  • Employed at a public hospital which includes overnight stay facilities
  • Available to full-time, part-time, temporary and casual nurses/midwives
  • Limited program places available

  • I’m currently registered / enrolled / endorsed to practise with the Queensland Nursing Council
  • I’ve not practised as a nurse / midwife in the previous 12 months or more
  • I returned to my nursing / midwifery career on or after 15 January 2008
  • I’m committed to remain employed for a minimum period of 18 months
  • I’m employed at a public hospital which includes overnight stay facilities
